Donor Program

A donor program in place with IVF Australia allows Dr. Raewyn Teirney to help those who require donor sperm, eggs or embryos; or a surrogate to help them have a baby. A dedicated team of staff will guide and support you though the entire donor program.

Donor Program – Donor Sperm

If you wish to access donor sperm, IVF Australia has a selection de-identified donors that have been recruited locally and from overseas. The treatment options available with donor sperm include intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in-vitro-fertilisation (IVF) with intra-cystoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

The donor program for donor sperm covers those who wish to donate sperm as well as those who wish to use donor sperm. If you wish to donate sperm, you should be a healthy man aged between 21 and 45. If you are interested, please do contact us and our team will talk you through the entire process and answer any questions you may have. Please bear in mind that you will have to first undergo significant medical and genetic tests and screenings.

Donor Eggs

Dr Raewyn is able to facilitate egg donation via IVF Australia for those women who are unable to conceive using their own eggs. In most cases, the donor and recipient are known to each other. It is quite rare that someone would donate an egg anonymously, although it has happened.

If you would like to become an egg donor, you should ideally be aged between 23 to 33 years and have no medical or genetic conditions that would affect an otherwise healthy baby. All appropriate screening will be conducted prior to the donation.

Donor eggs are harvested via an IVF process. Dr Raewyn is then able to create an embryo with either the partner’s sperm or donor sperm. The viable embryo is then transferred into the woman’s uterus.

Embryo Donation

If you have completed your family and have remaining embryos, you may wish to donate your embryos to someone having trouble conceiving. IVF Australia’s online community Embryo Donors is a safe space where donors and recipients can meet and connections can be made.

Should you be offered an embryo, it will then be thawed and transferred to the woman’s uterus on the correct day of the natural cycle or in line with hormone treatments.

Surrogacy

Surrogacy is an option where the female is unable to carry a baby to full term. IVF Australia has a comprehensive surrogacy program that includes a detailed process from counselling to psychiatric assessment and even legal advice. In this process, the embryo is created using the couple’s own egg and sperm, and it is implanted in a surrogate. The surrogate has no genetic link to the child and under Australian law, her eggs cannot be used.
