How To Get $2000 Towards Your IVF Treatment

IVF rebates of $2000 available through a new NSW government initiative

How To Get $2000 Towards Your IVF Treatment

IVF just got more affordable, with the NSW government announcing a $2000 rebate to assist with costs. The $80 million NSW Affordable IVF Initiative comes into effect on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. It will assist with out-of-pocket costs associated with assisted reproductive technology treatments. The Initiative covers both Pre-IVF Treatment Fertility Testing as well as IVF Treatment itself.

IVF – The Costs

Depending on your situation, a single IVF cycle can cost between AUD$9,372 – $10,112. This can increase up to $11,217 if Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is required.

Lower Cost IVF Now Accessible

NSW Treasurer Matt Kean said it would mean better access to lower cost IVF through publicly-supported clinics. It will also support fertility preservation in oncology and other medical issues. Public servants will also get access to up to five days paid fertility treatment leave.

“The high costs of fertility treatment can be a hurdle and add stress to those experiencing fertility issues. But the NSW government is helping to lower these costs,” said Kean.

The $2000 rebate can also be used in conjunction with existing Medicare rebates, which can partly cover specialist appointments and testing. To access the rebate, the patient must be a resident of NSW and have incurred an out-of-pocket cost from a registered provider and accessed treatment from October 1, 2022 onwards. Currently, you can only claim the $2000 rebate once. This is regardless of how many cycles you have.

One In Five Affected By Infertility

With one-in-five affected by infertility, the Initiative will help relieve the financial burden of fertility treatment.

Minister for Women, Bronnie Taylor, stated that single women and same-sex couples will also be eligible.

“We want this rebate to be accessible to everybody. So, it’s available to all couples and (single) women. Families… come in all shapes and sizes. We want to support everybody through this process.”
